Dolly-Parton
Born on Jan. 19th of 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn into a poor family that would eventually comprise 12 kids Dolly Parton learned early to escape the hardships of life through her vivid and broad imagination. Before she was able to read and write she was making up the songs she wrote herself. Her first guitar purchase came when she was just 8 years old and started singing at the Knoxville Tenn radio station at age 11. In the same year, she recorded her debut album on Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. Although she was in school, she had established a name for herself on the local scene. Her goal was to to make music on a greater scale. When she graduated from the high school in 1964, she moved straight to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for female performers for his show that was syndicated at this point. Parton joined RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She took on the role in 1967. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974, as her own songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were out-charting their collaborations. Parton wrote I Will Always love You in honor of Wagoner following their split. The song reached the top of the charts at. Its first appearance at No. 1 was 1974.
