April Ross

April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball athletes to win medals multiple times at an Olympics. Alix-Klineman will be competing with April Ross Tokyo in order to claim her third gold medal in the coming days. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic Gold. As she is 39 she could have her last shot. But she's confident top awards can be achieved. Ross was quoted by NBC Boston as saying that when you perform at your very best, even if you do well, we'll get the gold. "I'm trying to also try some luck." Ross born in 1982 and lived within Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began competing in the sports of Newport Harbor High school. She was able to participate in numerous sports in Newport Harbor High School. In addition to the indoor game, she also played basketball and jogged track as a pre-collegiate athlete. However, she was a standout in this sport. According to her biography, she was a middle blocker and outside volleyball player during her senior year at high school. For her efforts she was awarded an 1999 Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. In 2000, she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman began the partnership in 2017, however, Ross has been a beach player for years prior to. The fact is, she's had numerous big wins as well as one of her partners was an all-star volleyball player. From 2007 until 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is currently her coach. Kessy was Ross's teammate at the World Championships of 2009. They won a Silver Medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor took home gold ahead of them. Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. They went on to compete for the bronze beach volleyball medal at Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross played for the Trojans of USC in her college after graduating from in high school. Ross had an impressive run through the NCAA tournament. As a freshmen in 2000 the Trojans' performance earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman-of-the-Year honors. The Trojans were also able to make it to the Final Four with her help. During her sophomore year she was devastated by a personal setback, but she was able to repeat as an All-American. In her last two seasons in the program she led the Trojans to the summit netting consecutive national championships. Her individual achievements have cemented her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the nation's best female collegiate player. Ross played international relations as a major at USC. Margie Ross did not get to see her daughter's climb to beach volleyball fame. Ross's mother Margie died in 2001, when Ross was in the midst of being a USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed. Her mother is still dear. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration for her, both in and out of the water.
